Mary and Simeon

Looking for something out of the ordinary for Advent/Christmas? Imagine Mary, the mother of Jesus, as a young Kentucky woman singing her praise song to God (Magnificat) in an Appalachian setting. Then picture Simeon as an elderly West Virginia coal miner/preacher voicing his grateful joy (Nunc Dimittis) at viewing the baby boy Jesus in the temple - an event that he has waited for his whole life. Translate the traditional Latin of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis into present day language. Both these events combine to form the refreshingly different extended anthem "Mary & Simeon".
