Sound Off is based on a familiar military cadence call (sometimes called the "Duckworth Chant") used by drill instructors and their soldiers as they march in formation. A fun, but optional, opening gives band members a chance to call out vocally. A quote from the bugle call "Reveille" is passed around the band to close the piece with a flourish.
