Based on the Christina Rossetti poem A Better Resurrection, this colorful composition is written in a harmonic language well suited for the remarkable Victorian poem. The initial lines of the piece project a sense of empty meaninglessness, however, Rossetti's profound depth of spirit soon beams forth with the beautiful prayer O Jesus, Rise In Me. Few poems of the late nineteenth century offer such a beautiful and powerful affirmation of hope and faith.
