Hymn texts and tunes sometimes have interesting stories as to how they came together. The history of this selection is rather simply told. William Bradbury, the composer of the tune, saw Joseph Gilmore's hymn in a Boston paper and immediately set it to music on that day in 1864. HE LEADETH ME became the hymn we sing today. Cynthia Dobrinski has taken the well-known gospel hymn and set it for 3-5 octaves of bells with each verse having its own distinctive character.
