Invitations is a choral cycle that traces the age old pattern of courtship from the awakening of love to its culmination. The Flute and Percussion accompaniment represents Pan and Bacchus, the mythological deities of ethereal and earthly passion. David Rayl, director of choral activities at the University of Missouri-Columbia wrote to tell us that, "Jean Belmont's INVITATION is the best new choral work I've encountered in several years. Written in a lush, neo-romantic style, it presents many musical and vocal challenges, but unlike some other 20th century works, my students never tired of working on it and our audiences loved it." Jean Belmont has won many awards for her compositions including the "Barlow International Competition award" twice and the National Public Radio Lucian Wulsin Award for Best New Music.
