Nicolai composed two hymns that are so beloved that they are known as the King and Queen of Chorales: Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, the Voice Is Calling Us) and Wie schoen leuchtet der Morgenstern (How Beautiful the Morning Star).
