Drei Equale (Three Equali) for Four Trombones, WoO 30 was written in 1812 on a trip Beethoven took to Linz. Beethoven was friends with the kapellmeister, Franz Xaver Gloggl, of the cathedral in Linz who asked Beethoven to compose an equale for 6 trombones. Beethoven composed three equales for four trombones instead. It premiered on November 2, 1812. Since equales are solemn in nature and are played before, during and after a funeral, the first and third equales were played at Beethoven's funeral. Reprint edition.
