CLARINET CONCERTO NO. 2 IN E-FLAT MAJOR, J.118/Op. 74, composed in 1811 for clarinet virtuoso Heinrich Barmann by Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826), is a dazzling showcase of early Romantic flair and instrumental virtuosity. Cast in three movements, it opens with a bold and spirited Allegro, followed by a lyrical Romanza rich in operatic sentiment, and concludes with a vivacious polacca-style Rondo that demands both agility and personality from the soloist.
