These pieces for string orchestra not printed until 1989 date from a much earlier time having -little to do with Penderecki's own style · from whatever the epoch. Penderecki composed -these three pieces, a sad but beautiful aria and two powerful minuets in the old style, in 1963 for a film. This film was the great and famous three-hour film Die Handschrift von Saragossa by the important Polish director Wojciech Has. The piece was recorded on the Wergo CD 60172-50.
