The Student Violinist’s Guide to Music Theory contains twenty familiar children’s songs in a workbook format that provides an enjoyable way for Suzuki and Traditional students to improve music reading skills and learn basic music theory. In order to solve the mystery of each missing song title, students learn to read meter and key signatures, count basic note and rest values, clap rhythm patterns and read musical alphabet names. Students are led through the keys of A, D and G major, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, and 6/8 meter and more. The excitement of solving each mystery draws students into the material and propels them through the book. The songs, including one canon and three rounds, build performance skills and may be used for recitals.
