Dance of the Jabberwocky - Popplers Music
Skip to content

Jabberwocky, a poem by Lewis Carroll, is considered to be the greatest of all English nonsense poems. Dance of the Jabberwocky is a lighthearted musical depiction of this unique poetic work. This composition is designed to reinforce many musical concepts that are so important in the development of young musicians. The exercises at the end of the piece offer students the opportunity to work on pitch, dynamics, and articulations before actually performing. Articulations play an important role in creating the personality of the work. Students must have an understanding of the technique used to play staccato, accented, and legato. Rehearse the trombones on the proper way to play a glissando. (Concert F should be played in 6th position). Please note that the rachet and vibraslap parts should be played by two players.
