Dreamgirls was the longest running musical to open during the 1981-1982 Broadway season. Tony-winning librettist Tom Eyen's story was a fictionalized retelling of the rise and fall of the Supremes. Twenty-five years later, the score was reshaped for a movie version with added new songs, including Listen from Beyonce Knowles.
