One of the most distinguished and respected liturgical composers of his day, C. Alexander Peloquin (1918-1997) wrote relatively few organ solo works. The most significant of his organ pieces is this 1971 suite, which consists of five varied movements (Prelude, Dance, Interlude, Contemplation, and Joy) that can be performed together in recital or used as separate voluntaries for service. Peloquin's style of piquant tonal harmonies combined with vibrant rhythms is in full evidence. The five movements were dedicated to friends of Peloquin's who were also among the most distinguished organists of the day: Gerre Hancock, Marilyn Mason, Peter Picerno, Ted Alan Worth, and Berj Zamkochian.
