This new voicing was created for unbalanced choirs. In this unusual voicing, the tenors sing in octave unison with the sopranos for the entire piece, as do the basses and altos, creating a situation where the problems of low numbers in particular sections are minimized. Although the piece has only two parts, the listener still receives the full sound of a mixed choir. The frequent changes of meter, percussive quality of the accompaniment, and non-traditional chord structure show the influence of Spanish music on the composer.
