JOURNEY BY NIGHT investigates a phenomenon common to all mankind: dreams. Sudden changes in tempo, dynamics, and mood represent the random sequence of events in a dream. The opening motive is repeated three times throughout the work, indicating several stages in the dream sequence. The fanfare represents the intensity with which dreams can come and go.
