Likely written by Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) in 1763, Symphony No. 16 in B-flat (Hob. I:16) was among the first symphonies written when Haydn was employed by the Esterhazy family. In three movements, the work includes the following instrumentation: 0.2.0.[1]: 0.0.0.0: Str (4-4-3-3-3 in set; with solo VC) (Cl is included as sub. For Ob.2) (Hns parts do not exist in this edition). The musicians employed by the Esterhazy family at the time suggest that the inclusion of horns was possible, and some recordings/performances include horns (doubling other instruments), but no horns are listed on this original score, nor are there any horn parts.
