Campanella, La, BV B 68 (No. 3 from Grandes Etudes de Paganini, S. 141)

In 1838, Franz Liszt (1811-1886) completed a set of six of the most technically demanding piano etudes under the title ETUDES D'EXECUTION TRANSCENDANTE D'APRÈS PAGANINI, S. 140. Each piece was based on some of the violin CAPRICES and concertos of Niccolo Paganini. In 1951, Liszt revised the original version and retitled the collection GRANDES ETUDES DE PAGANINI, S. 141. ETUDE No. 3 is written in G-sharp minor and has been given the subtitle "La Campanella." Ferruccio Busoni (1866-1924) created concert arrangements of all six etudes between 1914 and 1921, completing LA CAMPANELLA in 1916 (BV B 68). Reprint edition.
