Don't let the title of this stunning new collection fool you. Not all the selections are "classical music" in the broad sense of the term. Some are and others are in that style. There are also hymns and folk songs which are classics ("traditional, enduring") in their own right. No one would deny that Gordon Young's famous title piece has a distinct classical sound. And all would agree that "Break Forth, O Beauteous Heavenly Light" and "Let Us Break Bread Together' are cherished classics in our wonderful heritage of hymns and folk songs. There is a good mix of both the vigorous and the contemplative, providing suitable pieces for almost any occasion. Incidentally, not all preludes (or offertories) have to be quiet and reflective. Each piece is timed, and registrations are provided for pipe, electronic, and Hammond organs. A good solid addition to any organist's library. Compiled by Eugene McCluskey
