Revel in the Gospel joy that creates, preserves, and protects the Church with this edition of the hymn GOTT SEI GELOBET UND GEBENEDEIET by Johann Walter and Ludwig Daser, transcribed and edited by Bret A. Heim for SATB and keyboard. The hymn is a splendid example of Luther’s genius in transforming a well-known pre-Reformation sacred song into music for the congregation to sing in the Divine Service. These settings have a simple vigor that preserves the hymn’s character as genuine sacred folk music and the joy of all that the Sacrament provides. The hymn builds from a simple beginning, with the first two stanzas set by Johann Walter, culminating in full-throated joy with a setting by Ludwig Daser newly transcribed from the manuscript. Use this setting at any celebration of the Sacrament.
