The Point of No Return was commissioned by Gene Aitken for the 2005 University of Northern Colorado/Greeley Jazz Festival All-Star Big Band. It alternates between a hard swing feel and an Afro-Cuban abakua (12/8) feel. Although challenging, try to capture the correct Afro-Cuban feel by lining up the quarter-note triplets in the melody and backgrounds with the eighth-note triplets in the rhythm section.
