Set to a Gaelic prayer translated into English, the flute plays the protagonist by dramatically opening the piece with a slow but flourishing melody. It suggests that this sleep may indeed be special. The choir is chant-like in their response to this opening, as they implore: "I am placing my soul and my body on thy sanctuary this night." Sophisticated treble choirs won't want to miss this most unusual piece.
