“Ascension of the Emperor” is a terrific opener for your beginning band’s very first concert! Only the first six notes learned in band instruction are used, and because there are no rhythms faster than quarter notes for the winds (and eighth notes for percussion,) this piece bolsters confidence right away, yet challenges them to keep learning.
