Matthew Olson sets a profound text by Madeleine L’Engle that speaks of the Christ Child’s birth amidst earthy strife. The music effectively captures both the discord and love within the text and creatively incorporates phrases of the hymn “Savior of the Nations, Come.” A moving and dramatic contribution to Advent and Christmas worship.
The solo trumpet part is also available as a solo trombone - see www.augsburgfortress.org. In addition, this work has been scored with optional brass quartet (2 trumpets, 2 trombones) which replaces the solo trumpet part. Organ is needed for both versions.
