Meredith Tompkins’s setting of Emily Dickinson’s I Took My Power in My Hand brings boldness and vulnerability to life through a driving piano part and compelling percussion. Dickinson’s words explore courage, self-doubt, and the struggle to stand strong “against the world,” framed by repeated declarations of power and resolve. With its intensity, rhythmic energy, and dramatic text, this SSA work offers a striking and empowering moment for treble choirs.
