For Spacious Skies is a new setting of four familiar American melodies. The harmonic treatment, fresh and unpredictable, is typical of Zaninelli’s personal language. Scored for symphonic wind ensemble and optional SATB chorus, this work demonstrates again Zaninelli’s heartfelt affection for American material. His expressive yet never sentimental treatment of American musical icons has earned him a large admiring audience.
