The Millennium III Action

Kawai’s Millennium III Action is built with ABS-Carbon, a composite that blends carbon fiber into Kawai’s proven ABS Styran. Because ABS-Carbon is so rigid, action parts can be made lighter without giving up strength. The payoff is a faster, more powerful action with finer control and greater stability than a traditional all-wood design.

Extended-Length Spruce Keys

Spruce is light yet remarkably strong for its weight, which makes it an ideal key material. It flexes very little and responds consistently, carrying every nuance of your playing while staying stable through years of heavy use.

Each key has been lengthened for easier playing and a more even response from the front of the key to the back, and a slightly taller keystick profile adds rigidity for extra power.

“Shiko Seion” Hammers

Named for the Japanese words for “ultimate voicing,” Shiko Seion hammers are made under the watch of Kawai’s Master Piano Artisans from start to finish. Each hammer is hand-pressed without heat and voiced without artificial hardeners, giving outstanding dynamic range and expression.

Dual-Pivot Dampers

First developed for the Shigeru Kawai EX Concert Piano, the dual-pivot damper design gives smoother half-pedal control, so pianists can shape delicate tonal colors with precision.

Hand-Wound Bass Strings

Winding copper wire around a bass string takes a highly refined skill. Kawai’s craftsmen wind each string carefully by hand to achieve the highest possible quality and a rich, even bass.

Concert Agraffes

The same agraffes used on Kawai’s EX Concert Grand, each one individually machined from solid brass rod for maximum precision and strength. The result is clear, powerful and impressive tone.

Premium Aged Solid Spruce Soundboard

Every Shigeru soundboard is custom-tapered from the finest spruce, aged through the traditional kigarashi process, which relies only on time and nature to bring the wood into natural balance. This long, patient process gives Shigeru pianos their uniquely rich tone.

SOLID (Stretcher Over-Lap Integrated Design)

SOLID construction gives the piano an extremely rigid base to hold string tension. The pinblock is hand-fitted to the plate, then joined with an overlapping stretcher bar into one structure that is firmly anchored to the rim, for stable tuning and powerful tone.

Hybrid Inner Rim (Konsei Katagi Rim)

Kawai’s exclusive Konsei Katagi rim combines different hardwoods for a balanced tone. Small-pored hardwoods that add brightness and projection are layered with dense, large-pored hardwoods that bring warmth and depth, creating the full, well-rounded tone that is the hallmark of the Shigeru piano.

All-Spruce Beams

Spruce is prized for how well it carries and preserves sound energy, and it is usually considered too precious for structural parts. On Shigeru pianos, every underside beam is made entirely of the highest-quality spruce.
