The Millennium III Action

Kawai’s Millennium III Action is built with ABS-Carbon, a composite that blends carbon fiber into Kawai’s proven ABS Styran. Because ABS-Carbon is so rigid, action parts can be made lighter without giving up strength. The payoff is a faster, more powerful action with finer control and greater stability than a traditional all-wood design.

Extended-Length Spruce Keys

Spruce is light yet remarkably strong for its weight, which makes it an ideal key material. It flexes very little and responds consistently, carrying every nuance of your playing while staying stable through years of heavy use.

Each key has been lengthened for easier playing and a more even response from the front of the key to the back, and a slightly taller keystick profile adds rigidity for extra power.

NEOTEX Key Surfaces

NEOTEX is Kawai’s exclusive cellulose-fiber key surface, with the smooth, subtle texture of natural ivory and ebony. Its semi-porous, silica-filled surface absorbs moisture and oils from the hands, and because it covers both the naturals and sharps, the whole keyboard feels consistent.

NEOTEX resists cracking and fading, and its static-resistant surface helps keep dust from building up, so the keys stay beautiful and playable for years.

A Rigid Foundation for Every Key Stroke

The hammer rail is the backbone of the action. On the GX Series it’s made from extruded aluminum with Kawai’s Dual-Beam design, and both the hammer rail and wippen rail are permanently locked in place to preserve precise tolerances and consistent touch for the life of the piano.

The rail’s finely serrated surface holds each hammer flange firmly in alignment, and the flanges themselves are made of PBT resin, which won’t shrink or swell, so action screws stay tight over time.

Tapered Solid Spruce Soundboard

The soundboard is the heart of the piano, turning string vibrations into rich, resonant tone. Every GX Series soundboard is made from straight-grained, quarter-sawn solid spruce and carefully tapered so each region moves with just the right amount of resonance. Only boards that meet Kawai’s strict resonance standards make it into a GX grand.

CORE System

CORE stands for “Convergence for Optimum Reflected Energy.” The piano’s main strength points (the rim, the plate and the underside beams) all converge on a single central point. That creates an exceptionally solid foundation that helps the inner rim reflect more energy, for greater tonal power and longer sustain.

Hybrid Inner Rim (Konsei Katagi Rim)

Kawai’s exclusive Konsei Katagi rim combines different hardwoods for a balanced tone. Small-pored hardwoods that add brightness and projection are layered with dense, large-pored hardwoods that bring warmth and depth. Together they create the full, well-rounded tone Kawai pianos are known for.

Vertically Laminated Bridge

The bridge carries string vibration into the soundboard. GX bass bridges are crafted from premium hard maple or beech, while the treble bridges are vertically laminated from 13 layers of maple and mahogany for maximum strength and efficient transfer of sound energy.

SOLID (Stretcher Over-Lap Integrated Design)

SOLID construction gives the piano an extremely rigid base to hold string tension. The pinblock is first fitted to the plate, then joined with an overlapping stretcher bar into one structure that is firmly anchored to the rim. The unusually thick stretcher bar reflects just how sturdy this framework is, supporting stable tuning and a powerful tone.

V-Pro Plate

The plate is the acoustically neutral iron frame that the strings are stretched across. Every GX Series plate is cast using the Vacuum Mold Process (V-Pro) with Kawai’s “Crossbone Design,” producing a plate that is strong, stable and beautiful.

“The Grand”

The GX Series honors the classic look of a grand piano while adding new touches of elegance. Gentle curves and a broad music rest carry forward the traditional grand silhouette, and a thicker upper beam both strengthens the body and sets the design apart. Kawai’s prized painting and finishing process gives the case its rich ebony polish.
